From the Highline Ballroom Blog:

HUGE thanks to everyone that came out to support a good cause. The first batch of photos are up in the photo gallery. More coming…

Anyone unable to attend can still contribute here.

I hope the rumors about another one or two benefits I am hearing are true.

I had a blast and this is definitely a worthy cause

New Elvis Costello Album - Momofuku 4/22: Vinyl & Digital only, No CD!

Posted by jroxx on March 20, 2008

hdr_logo.gif

writer Jonathan Cohen is reporting today  that Elvis Costello’s next solo studio album, curiously dubbed “Momofuku,” will arrive April 22 via Lost Highway. For the time being, the set will be released only on vinyl, with a digital download code included in the package.

As previously reported, Costello will open the Police’s summer North American tour, beginning May 10 in Chicago. He also has headlining dates on tap beforehand, starting April 22 in Memphis.

On a side note:

I also contribute from time to time to a food blog as well, so when I heard the title I had to see what David Chang, owner of Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssam Bar, and the new, impossible-to-get-into Momofuku Ko had to say…

Brian Hiatt of RollingStone.com went to the source, David Chang himself:

Costello’s reps weren’t immediately able to provide an answer, so I went straight to Chang, whose East Village restaurants serve his hyper-inventive, heavy-on-the-pork cuisine in a rock and roll setting: waiters wear t-shirts, you sit at counters, and loud music is always playing (plus, there’s a huge vintage Band poster hanging at Noodle Bar). “We’ve heard he’s a fan of the restaurant, but I doubt he’d name his album after us,” says Chang. “That would be too weird. It blows my mind. There’s just no way! He’s Elvis Costello, for Christ’s sake!”

My band is opening for Led Zeppelin, or is it?

Posted by jroxx on March 20, 2008

According to a report on the New Music Express website yesterday, Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has claimed that his band have bagged tour support slots on a supposed future tour with Led Zeppelin.

    &      ????

The article also states that Ian Astbury of the Cult has claimed that they were tapped for the slot as well.

 &  ???

I will believe the hype of a Led Zeppelin tour when the shows for MSG are announced, maybe by then Guns & Roses will be ready for an opening slot as well (Axl are you reading this?)

Really looking forward to the Robert Plant / Alison Krauss tour this summer (Madison Square Garden June 10th & 11th).  Raising Sand is an album that keeps on growing on me after each listen….

What do you you think about a Led Zeppelin tour?  Who do you think should get the opening slot?

Downtown NYC luminaries unite for one astonishing benefit concert at the Highline Ballroom in New York City on Wednesday, March 19 , 2008 , coming to the aid of beloved record producer Scott Harding and the Scotty Hard Trust. At 3am on Friday, February 15, music producer Scott Harding was a victim of a car crash in which he was a passenger of a car service, returning home from a late night mixing session. The cab he was riding in was broadsided by a stolen car; the impact crushed Harding’s T5 vertebrae, leaving him partially paralyzed. Scott Harding’s condition is serious and like many dedicated musicians he is without health insurance and is facing very large medical and legal fees. The short term need to raise cash in order to handle Scott Harding’s affairs is very real. His friends and the dedicated musical community that Scott has long been a part of quickly united, offering performances in the form of a benefit concert for The Scotty Hard Trust, a special account that has been set up by friends of Harding which helps to handle Scott’s short-term financial needs through private monetary donations. The confirmed lineup for the Scott Harding benefit concert includes: John Medeski, Billy Martin, John Scofield, DJ Logic, DJ Olive, Bill Laswell, Eric Krasno, Neal Evans, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo, Antibalas, Sex Mob, John Ellis, Michael Blake, Vijay Iyer, Tommy Hamilton, Kevin Kendrick, and many more.Vancouver native and longtime New Yorker Scott Harding has a long and flourishing career as a producer and engineer in the hip-hop and jazz genres. RIP Martin Fierro: January 18, 1942 - March 13, 2008

Posted by jroxx on March 16, 2008

This week the music world lost a gifted artist and friend, Martin Fierro.

Meester as he was known to many, left his mark on music history with his involvement with many bands and artists over the last 40 years including:

Mother Earth, recording with Michael Bloomfield, Mark Naftalin and Tracy Nelson. He also formed a lifelong musical alliance with Jerry Garcia, appearing on The Grateful Dead’s Wake of the Flood album and joining Garcia in The Legion of Mary. Among other groups and artists, The Meester has recorded with James Cotton, The Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Shades of Joy and Merle Saunders, and performed with Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs and Queen Ida. In 1970 Fierro composed the musical score for the cult film classic, El Topo.

Martin Fierro is currently a founding member of the jam band Zero. He has also performed in recent years with The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, Dark Star Orchestra and New Monsoon.

Company to Watch

This sounds very cool and something I hope a lot of bands start using. I’d love to see behind the scenes and hear the development of an album.

Investors just dumped $3 million into DeepRockDrive, a startup specialized in live concert streaming. They allow bands to perform in a studio, and webcast the action to a global audience.
