Wow 3 ticketmaster references in one paragraph, subliminal advertising?
The album dropped on the 18th and is so strikingly beautiful, a great pairing of 2 very talented musicians. Please listen to this album if you have not already.

Instoremarketing.org ran a story this morning about how Borders Books & Music last month unveiled a new concept store highlighted by a multitude of digital experiences. The first store to feature the prototype opened on Feb. 22 in Borders’ hometown of Ann Arbor, MI. The company plans to open 13 more in 2008, including a Las Vegas unit debuting in April and seven others in May.
The digital center has usurped a majority of the former music department, carrying a downsized inventory of product and a large amount of technological services. (Borders alluded to the change in its year-end financial release, reporting a decline in music sales and a plan to “reallocate floor space” accordingly.)
One of the neat features of the new stores is:
Borders Digital Music, which enables shoppers to burn CDs and download music to digital music players from the chain’s music library.
I think Border’s may be onto a new business model, one that Tower Records sadly did not have the foresight to develop.
On the list of the 25 albums that should NOT have been recorded, #13 Van Halen III has an open letter to Eddie Van Halen in addition to the commentary.
Here is the letter in its entirety
(An open letter to Eddie Van Halen)
Dear Eddie,
You don’t know me, but I was one of your biggest fans. (Stress on the word “was.”) Face it, poncho, you were the shit. Other than Hendrix, what other person was so identifiable with the rock guitar other than you? Your opening riff to “Mean Streets” still boggles my mind!!!
But why are you such a control-freak asshole? We know that Dave’s a jerk-off and you probably won’t work with him again. But come on, dude, Sammy’s a nice guy. Bury the hatchet already!!! Just make peace with him, put some beer in your belly and get up on stage and shred!
I just don’t like the guy you’ve become, my little Eddie. Coming from a fan, you really need to pull yourself together. Stop being an ass, m’kay?
Your friend,
Mike McHone
P.S. Although you’re a great guitarist, I still say the best thing you ever fingered was Valerie Bertinelli.
The ABB website issued the following statement this morning:
The Allman Brothers Band announced today that they are postponing their annual run of 15 shows at New York City’s Beacon Theatre set for May 5-24, with rescheduled dates TBA. In addition, they have also cancelled their upcoming performances at the Wanee Festival that they host every year in Florida (set for April 11-12, Wanee will continue as planned despite the fact that the Allman Brothers Band will not be appearing). For the past six months, founding member Gregg Allman has been receiving scheduled treatments for Hepatitis C, a virus that, with these treatments, has become curable in recent years. The treatments so far have been successful and the virus has been eradicated from his system.
However, the recovery time from the side effects of the treatment are taking longer than originally projected. Since the Allman Brothers Band are known for exhilarating and exhausting concert performances they don’t want to give fans anything less than they have come to expect; so the band members made a group decision to delay the first round of dates. “I’m getting better but I’m still tired,” says Gregg. “I need to be at 110% to do the shows the way we do them. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the support and understanding my Brothers and our fans have given me.”
Update 1:45 PM
The MSG website issued the following statement this morning:
We’re sorry to inform you that the Allman Brothers Band performances scheduled for May 5- 24, 2008 at the Beacon Theatre have been postponed.
For the past six months, founding member Gregg Allman has been receiving scheduled treatments for Hepatitis C, a virus that, with these treatments, has become curable in recent years. The treatments so far have been successful and the virus has been eradicated from his system. The recovery time has taken longer than originally anticipated and it was a group decision to postpone the Beacon Theatre shows.
The unparalleled loyalty of Allman Brothers Band fans has been well documented in the music industry for over 39 years — the last 19 at The Beacon Theatre. The band is committed to giving 110% and wants to be sure that they are in top form before returning to The Beacon Theatre.
Live Nation and the Beacon Theatre are working to make sure that we find a solution to this road block and ensure that the music never stops. We are devoted to bring these amazing concerts to dedicated fans like you and thank you for your patience during this unforeseen and unfortunate delay.
Please hold onto your ticket until the rescheduled dates are announced. For further information, you may visit www.allmanbrothersband.com for a complete press release and updates.
Get well Gregg, we look forward to our Beacon shows sometime in the future!
The judges were choosing 10 singers who will go to the Mets’ stadium in Queens in a few weeks for a second audition — this one from second base and singing the actual anthem with its very high notes. Five winners will be picked to sing it before home games at Shea.
The Mets usually have professionals performing the anthem, but team organizers say they launched the publicity stunt to give fans a chance to be part of the game.
The open auditions were held for the second year at the midtown Manhattan studios of SportsNet New York, the year-round television home of the Mets where fans began lining up the night before for the 11 a.m. call.
Three teenagers from Brooklyn who delivered “The Star Spangled Banner” in velvety harmony were invited to come back for the next round.
“We practiced it everyday,” said Wayne Mickens, who sings with Lonique Crawley and Stephen “Vaugn” Middleton.
The first 100 people who signed up to audition received two free tickets for a home game.
