Mountain Jam is a 3-day outdoor music festival that takes place the first weekend after Memorial Day (May 30th to June 1st). It is held at Hunter Mountain in upstate New York.
The initial band line-up looks great! I couldn’t make it last year but the quality of the webcast was one of the best I’ve watched/heard and that was during some awful rains. Hopefully, they use the same tech crew as last year and Warren & friends finally get some nice weather that weekend.

Jimmy Page spoke to reporters in Tokyo this weekend and did his best to keep the hype alive. He claims Zeppelin is more that ready for a world tour but it won’t happen until Plant finishes his tour with Allison Krauss.
“I can assure you the amount of work that we put into the O2, for ourselves rehearsing and the staging of it was probably what you put into a world tour,” he explained
Page added that due to frontman Robert Plant’s solo commitments, fans would have to wait at least until the fall before anything happens.
“Robert Plant has a parallel project running and he’s really busy with that project,” he explained. “Certainly until September, so I can’t give you any news.”
Robert Plant was interviewed by Jill Martin of MSG TV at the Knicks/Sixers game on Friday night. He talked about playing the Garden, his tour with Allison Krauss and the chances of playing Madison Square Garden again as Zeppelin.
See video of the interview here.

We all know the state of music industry but calling on the ISP’s to regulate control of what people are downloading on their networks is not the answer.
A new report from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the music industry’s global trade organization claims the continued decline in music sales has reached a breaking point.
The report focuses on music piracy, noting that “tens of billions” of songs were illegally downloaded in 2007, and that the ratio of unlicensed tracks downloaded to legal tracks sold was about 20 to 1.
The IFPI is calling on federal governments to intervene to force Internet service providers (ISPs) to help stamp out music piracy occurring on their networks.
Read a detailed summary of the report here.

At the MIDEM conference in Cannes, QTrax announced deals with all of the major music labels and publishers to offer the first free and legal ad-supported P2P service to include major label music. QTrax will have a start-up music library of over 25 million songs which is about four times bigger than iTunes and 100% free.
Update 10:52am Monday. What not to do when launching a product.
QTrax doesn’t have a deal with any of the four major music labels for the ad-supported, peer-to-peer download service it is debuting this morning.
See Alley Insider article here.
Update 8:35am Monday. Total confusion of which labels are on board.
Qtrax president Allan Klepfisz told AP that Warner was expected to agree to terms “shortly”. He claimed that all other parties had agreed to the terms but some deals were yet to be formally signed.
EMI and Universal also denied a licensing deal with Qtrax despite being in discussions with the company. Sony could not be reached for comment.
Update 5:32pm Sunday. Looks there is confusion on which labels are on board.
“Warner Music Group has not authorized the use of our content on Qtrax’s recently announced service,” WMG spokesman Will Tanous told Silicon Alley Insider.
Universal Music Group, the world’s biggest music label, doesn’t have a deal with QTrax either but is in talks with the company, says a person familiar with the situation.
The Los Angeles Times also reported on Sunday that EMI Group executives said it had not agreed terms with Qtrax.
Sony BMG Music Entertainment, the second largest music company, was not immediately available.
Update 3:42pm Sunday. I went to the QTrax website to try it out and they were down.
Due to overwhelming demand, Qtrax.com is currently unavailable. Please check back in 24 hours to download the first, free, and legal P2P music application. Thank you for your understanding.
Not the greatest launch.

At the MIDEM conference in Cannes, QTrax announced deals with all of the major music labels and publishers to offer the first free and legal ad-supported P2P service to include major label music. QTrax will have a start-up music library of over 25 million songs which is about four times bigger than iTunes and 100% free.
The songs will be wrapped in Microsoft’s Windows Media subscription DRM. Unlike imeem and Last.fm, Qtrax downloads can be stored indefinitely on PCs and transferred onto portable music players.
As of now, the tracks are not compatible with the Apple iPod, but Klepfisz said that the service would be compatible with iPods in March.
“We’ve had a technical breakthrough which enables us to put songs on an iPod without any interference from FairPlay,” said Allan Klepfisz, Qtrax’s president and chief executive.
Klepfisz declined to give specifics on how Qtrax will make its audio files compatible with Apple devices, but noted that “Apple has nothing to do with it.”

Festival Republic and C3 Presents have announced that “Due to the overall festival traffic in the northeast and big bands touring through this area at the same time, co-producers Festival Republic and C3 Presents have decided to step back and launch Vineland in 2009.”

All Points West was going to completely kick our asses this year so we’re going to wait.

Nike SB November Rain Dunk Mid

November Rain by Guns N’ Roses is the band’s last Top 10 hit. The original version was 25 minutes long, and the song was edited down to 8:57 making it the longest Top 10 in history. On top of that Slash has the longest guitar solo ever in a Top 10 single. One more little interesting fact Shannon Hoon from the group Blind Melon sang backup. Hoon, who died of a drug overdose in 1995, was Axl Rose’s cousin.
This past November Nike released their version of November Rain. The Dunk Mid includes a black/gray/red upper and extensive detailing on the tongue, a rarity amongst most sneakers. The insole has a graphic of a girl in a coffin (ala the video for the song.)
I can’t believe I’m going to write this on my own music blog but in other Guns & Roses related news it seems that Chinese Democracy is done for the 67th time. Classic Rock Magazine is reporting that Axl Rose’s Personal Assistant Beta Lebeis has confirmed that the long awaited Guns N’ Roses album ‘Chinese Democracy’ was completed before Christmas.
